A very rare copy of the 1967 single 'Desdemona' by the group John's Children. Not a group that famously springs to mind, but a rebellious group considered a chaotic antecedent to punk and glam rock. If punk shocked the world in the early 1970s, the antics of John's Children would have been blowing minds in the three years of their existence from 1965-68. A product of their manager Simon Napier-Bell (who produced The Yardbirds) they were extreme in their on-stage performances to levels that they upstaged The Who whilst supporting their German tour. Their album Orgasm wasn't released for four years and must have really shocked the world at a time when 'that word' wasn't going to be publicly acceptable for decades; a previous single 'Not the Sort of Girl (You'd Like To Take To Bed)' was also rejected out-of-hand by their label. But part of the reason they have remained in public interest is because of the little fresh face on the right of single-cover - Marc Bolan. Bolan was only with the group for a matter of months but wrote Desdemona which was immediately banned by the BBC for it's lyrics. He also wrote their single 'A Midsummer Night's Scene' a copy of which sold 15yrs ago for £3,400. To prove the statement of being an antecedent to punk, The Jam recorded Desdemona in the 1970's ...making this single a true piece of musical history.
