This is Billy Fury's 1971 album The World of Billy Fury. One of the UK's earliest rockers, Fury was producing records around the 1950's/60's with a career that sat very much alongside The Beatles. Respected by John Lennon such that at an audition he sought out Fury's autograph, and in the '60's Fury equalled their number of hits. He was unique at the time for writing much of his own early material; but as tastes changed he moved away from the rock sound that can be heard on his first album The Sound of Fury, over into ballads. But Billy's health had been blighted in his youth through rheumatic fever that left his heart damaged. In January 1983, after working on the album Billy Fury The One and Only to spark a come-back, Billy died suddenly at the young age of 42yrs old. His rocking-style and career had very much mirrored that of Elvis - including a move into films - and bizarrely they past at the same tragically young age. One of the well known tracks from this album is Halfway to Paradise.
Of additional interest from these early albums is they were used to advertise other albums being released by the record company - the back-cover of the album advertises other Decca albums released at the time including Alan Price's 'The World of Alan Price', the David Bowie album 'The World of David Bowie', and also 'The World of Marianne Faithfull'!
