In 1977, Robert Stigwood had become involved in a movie he described as 'a little low budget film' which eventually became known as Saturday Night Fever. Starring John Travolta, it ultimately brought disco to the masses. But when the Bee Gees were contacted by Stigwood while the film was in post-production, it was in quite serious difficulties. Travolta hadn't been dancing in the movie to Bee Gees music but to Boz Scaggs and Stevie Wonder, but Columbia Records refused to permit Scaggs involvement and so the Bee Gees were approached. The results were to have a huge cultural impact across the world. The album is packed with hits recognisable today - Staying Alive, Saturday Night Fever, How Deep is Your Love, Jive Talkin', More than a Woman, and many more. The movie became a huge success, and dance clubs started everywhere where people could learn Travolta's moves to Night Fever. Other contributions to the albums came from KC&The Sunshine Band, The Trammps, Kool and the Gang, and David Shire. The album sat at the top of the US and UK charts for months not weeks. Saturday Night Fever was ultimatley recognised as 'of cultural significance' and added to the National Recording Registry in the Library of Congress.
