1st or First is the Bee Gees first UK album issued in the crucial year of 1967 and is pop/psych at it's best. Also the first album they recorded under Robert Stigwood (later to produce the massive 'Saturday Night Fever'), they were all still very young men as can be seen by the front cover. Whilst still evolving and finding their way, the album contains tracks that were to become all time classics - 'New York Mining Disaster', 'Cucumber Castle' and in particular 'To Love Somebody' which was recorded by Janis Joplin two years later in 1969 and is a hall-of-fame-style timeless classic to the present day. The Bee Gees career was to have many ups and downs until full blown fame came with the disco years, but they are incredible writers across several genres and for many artists; and this album was back at the start where it all began. A must for serious Bee Gees fans.
