Billy Fury's double album 'The Collection' was released in 1987 and is a collection of his greatest songs and hits. Known for his many ballards, Fury was the first genuine British Rocker and one of the few to regularly compose his own material. Just check out his debut album 'The Soul of Fury' for confirmation, and also be amazed at the brilliant guitar work of Joe Brown.
An inspiration of many of the greats, Fury had been left with a weak heart following rheumatic fever contracted while he was a child. In the late '60's his health suffered a serious decline and he withdrew from performing. In 1982 he returned to the studio to record what was to be his final album, Billy Fury The One and Only, which was released posthumously - Fury tragically died in Jan 1983 from a heart attack. It's a strange twist that during life Fury's career almost paralleled Elvis, with Billy even appearing in the similar Elvis-type films in the '70's; and both lost their lives at the young age of 42yrs. This double album is a good starting point for a new Billy Fury collector.
